Asus Zenfone 2 vs Xiaomi Mi 4i : Price, specifications, features
Xiaomi launched the Mi 4i in India on the same day Asus launched its Zenfone 2. The Asus Zenfone 2 comes in four variants, with prices starting at Rs 12,999. The Mi 4i is also priced at Rs 12,999 and we pit the new flagships against each other to see which one fares better.
Processor
The Xiaomi Mi 4i is powered by a second-generation 1.7GHz Snapdragon 615 octa-core (1.1GHz quad-core + 1.7GHz quad-core) 64-bit processor, while the Zenfone 2 ZE550ML has a 1.8GHz Intel Atom Z3580 quad-core chipset. Both the smartphones pair with a 2GB RAM.
Price
As mentioned above, the Zenfone 2 (ZE550ML) variant is the cheapest in the lineup priced at Rs 12,999. This is incidentally the same as Xiaomi Mi 4i. Both the phones will be sold on Flipkart, but the Zenfone 2 will not follow Xiaomi’s flash sale model. Pre-bookings for the Zenfone 2 are live, while registrations for the Mi 4i flash sale begin at 8.00PM today.
Storage
While both the smartphones have 16GB of internal memory storage, the Zenfone 2 ZE550ML has an edge here, as it offers additional 64GB of expandable storage via a microSD slot. The Xiaomi Mi 4i does not have a microSD slot for expanding the 16GB memory further.
Design
The Zenfone 2 ZE550ML is much thicker in comparison to the Mi 4i. It is 10.9mm thick, while the Mi 4i is only 7.8mm thick. Even when we consider weight, the Zenfone 2 ZE550ML is 170 grams heavy, while the Mi 4i is just 130 grams.
Battery
Both the smartphones support fast charging technology. The Xiaomi Mi 4i packs a 3,120mAh battery, while the Zenfone 2 ZE550ML trails closely behind with a 3,000mAh battery.
Camera
On the photography front, both the smartphones sport a 13-megapixel rear sensor and a 5-megapixel front snapper. The Xiaomi Mi 4i comes with a rear CMOS sensor, 5-element lens, f/2.0 aperture, and dual-tone flash. The PixelMaster camera on the Zenfone 2 too comes with 5-element lens, f/2.0 aperture, and dual-LED real tone flash.
On the front, the Mi 4i selfie camera comes with f/1.8 aperture and an 80 degrees wide angle lens, while the one of the Zenfone 2 comes with f/2.0 aperture and 85 degrees wide angle lens.
Asus also launched Zenflash and Lolliflash accessories with the Zenfone 2 to further elevate the quality of pictures. While, the Zenflash gives you DSLR like photos, the Lolliflash makes your selfies look much prettier with its dual color flash.
Display
The Zenfone 2 has a 5.5-inch 720p display with a pixel density of 267ppi. In comparison, the Xiaomi Mi 4i has a smaller 5-inch screen, but with full HD resolution that translates into a pixel density of 441ppi. The displays on both the smartphones are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The display of the Xiaomi Mi 4i also features “Sunlight display,” which essentially includes dynamic tone mapping that balances the screen legibility according to the lighting conditions.
Software
The Mi 4i is the first Xiaomi smartphone to run on Android Lollipop-based MIUI 6. The company brings in new features like the Visual IVR. This feature essentially lets you manage IVR menus without listening to them. Xiaomi’s ROM now supports six Indian languages including Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
In comparison, Zenfone 2 ZE550ML will host the company’s ZenUI on top of the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop. The interface comes with its set of customizations as well, and a detailed analysis can only be given when we review the smartphones.
Connectivity
Both the phones have dual-SIM and LTE support. The only difference is that the Xiaomi Mi 4i has the old-school dual-standby feature in-built, while Zenfone 2 ZE550ML has something called as the dual-active DSDA feature which lets you get calls from both SIMs simultaneously.
Conclusion
While both the smartphones have competitive specs and are priced aggressively, the Zenfone 2 ZE550ML has a big draw because of its expandable memory option. The Mi 4i though comes with a full HD display, and is lighter, slimmer and more colorful than Asus’ smartphone.
