Samsung Galaxy J1 launched in India, priced at Rs 7,190

As expected, Samsung’s Galaxy J1 has quietly gone on sale via Amazon India. The smartphone is priced at Rs 7,190 and comes with a bevy of launch day offers on the e-commerce site.

samsung-galaxy-j1-amazon-indiaAs far as specifications are concerned, the Galaxy J1 sports a 4.3-inch WVGA (800×480 pixels) display, and is powered by a 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 dual-core processor paired with 512MB of RAM. Also included is 4GB internal storage that can be further expanded up to 64GB using a microSD card.



The smartphone also features a 5-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 1,850mAh battery, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 3G support, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. On the software front, it runs on Android 4.4 KitKat.

As for the offers, Amazon India is offering buyers free data to RCom and Aircel subscribers. 500MB of free 2G/3G data will be offered to Aircel prepaid subscribers. Prepaid and postpaid RCom subscribers will 500MB of free 2G/3G data every month for a period of six months. Additionally, buyers will also get Rs 1,400 starsports.com package, which is applicable for three months.


The Galaxy J1 is yet another example of failings of Samsung in the Indian smartphone market. The smartphone will face tough competition from the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi 1S, Huawei Honor Holly and the Lenovo A6000, which not only feature better specifications, but also have a smaller price tag.
