CyanogenMod Rolls Out Android 5.0 Lollipop To The Google Nexus 7 LTE 2013 Before Google

A lot of people will be sick by now of hearing about Android 5.0 (Lollipop). Chances are though, the people who are sick of hearing about it, probably fall into one of two camps. Those who don’t know or care about Lollipop and those who already have Lollipop on their devices. For all those still waiting, it is probably safe to assume they do care. What’s more, those who are waiting are probably starting to get itchy feet over the last few days, as we are now approaching the middle of January, which was round about when most OEMs promised Lollipop will start rolling out to their devices. Remember all the ‘ninety-day’ promises?

                                              

Well, one set of users who are probably itchier than anyone else are owners of the Google Nexus 7 LTE (2013). This is because they have a Nexus device. Firstly, Nexus devices are pretty much considered to have a golden ticket when it comes to Lollipop updates and are expected to receive their updates before anyone else. The second reason is that Nexus 7 LTE (2013) owners might be a little itchy (maybe even irate) as they are virtually the only Nexus device to have not received the update. Since Lollipop was pushed to the AOSP, all the main Nexus devices have received their update, except the 2012 and 2013 Nexus 7 LTE variants. Which does seem a little strange as both the WiFI versions of both tablets have received the update.

Well, if that is you and you are fed up with waiting then all is not lost. It was announced a few days ago that CyanogenMod’s Lollipop (aka CM12) had started rolling out. And guess what. Tonight, CM12 has rolled out for the Google Nexus 7 LTE (2013) variant. This is quite an achievement, as it seems CyanogenMod have pushed a variant of Lollipop for a Nexus device before even Google has managed to. So if you are a Nexus 7 LTE (2013) owner and want Lollipop now, then this might be your best bet. That said, before you do download and install CM12 you do need to understand (or be reminded if you read our previous post) that these are nightlies and as such are highly experimental. In fact, the CyanogenMod team notes that it is only 85% complete so you should expect bugs.
