Top 10 Best Features Of Android 5.0 Lollipop

Today Google has finally released the complete AOSP of the new Android 5.0 Lollipop Operating System for its Nexus devices. So after the rollout of the new Android Operating System, you probably have a sense of what’s new and what’s cool in the OS.

Now with Android Lollipop OS in your smartphone you can double tap the screen to wake up your device. But this feature requires compatible hardware to work. The feature works well on the Nexus 9 tablet and the Nexus 6 as well.

2. Tap and Go

Tap and Go is a feature that is used to transfer settings and apps from and old phone to a new one. Android has never been good in doing that. “Tap and Go” allows you pair the apps and setting with NFC and your old Android phone will then use Bluetooth to send over all the details of what your phone should have installed over to the new phone.

3. Ok Google

Now with Android Lollipop you get the ability to say “Ok Google” even when your phone is on standby mode. The feature seems to be inspired by Motorola. When you speak “Ok Google” your phone will wake up and then you can use voice search, send texts and much more. Note: This feature also requires compatible hardware to work.

4. Priority Mode

The Priority Mode is something just like the “Do Not Disturb” feature on iOS but a lot smarter .Priority mode allows you to set the apps that can disturb you while the rest won’t bug you. You can also set the time to set back to normal notifications so that you won’t forget to switch it off. With total silence mode you can turn off everything including the alarms.

5. Guest Mode

Till now this feature was only available for tablets but now with Android Lollipop you get Guest mode for both smartphone and tablets. The idea is to create a clean, safe and hassle free workspace that anyone body can use and also to protect their privacy.

6. Material Design

Android Lollipop is a complete redesign that we already got a good look at this past summer, but there are new designs pretty much everywhere. The Material Design is pretty much a new feature and you’ll definitely love it. For example: Android adds a dynamically-created colour overlay to each photo based on the accent colour from the photo itself.

7. Ambient Display

The Ambient Display is something inspired from the Moto X in which the device displays bits of information on your screen as it comes in without turning the whole thing one.  On Nexus 6 the feature works in a more advance way – basically you get black and white versions of what would normally be on a lock screen anyway. It requires an OLED screen to work.

8. Lock screen notifications

Android Lollipop will directly put notifications on your lock screen. So, now you can archive email, reply to an SMS or expand notifications to see more information just directly from the home screen. You can also set app that contains some sensitive information as “redacted” that will stop the app from displaying their contents.

9. Face Unlock

As we all know Face Unlock is a feature that hasn’t really worked well in the previous Android versions.  But in Android Lollipop, Google has tweaked it to work well and will start running silently as soon as you turn on your screen without messing up with lock screen notifications.

10. Overview

Overview is the name of the new multitasking view in Android Lollipop. Each app is a big card, stacked up and you can scroll through many more recent apps than used to able to. It’s really an interesting and cool way to multitask.
