Motorola Moto M launched in India; pricing starts from Rs 15,999

After several teasers on Twitter Lenovo today has officially launched the Moto M smartphone in India. The latest Moto phone is priced at Rs 15,999 and will be available to buy from Flipkart starting midnight 11.59pm tomorrow on December 14.The Moto M was first launched in China last month. It is the first Moto phone under Rs 20,000 to have a full metal unibody design. The latest phone is more or less an incremental update over the Moto G4 Plus with the fingerprint sensor relocated to the back panel, which is a welcome change since the home button sensor is uncomfortable to use to most users.

Moto M features a 5.5-inch Full HD display with 1080p resolution and 2.5D curved glass. The phone is powered by the octa-core MediaTek Helio P15 processor backed by 4GB RAM and 32GB, 64GB internal storage options. The storage can be bumped up to 256GB using a microSD card.Considering Moto M is launched in a segment earlier occupied by Moto X Play, it can be projected as the middle ground between Moto G4 Plus, priced at Rs 14,999, and the Moto Z Play, priced at Rs 24,999.

The Moto M has a 16-megapixel camera on the back with phase detection autofocus (PDAF) with dual-LED flash. On the front, the phone carries an 8-megapixel camera. There is a 3,050mAh battery inside the Moto M and it also supports fast charging.The latest Moto phone has USB Type-C port for connectivity and charging, it also support NFC. The Moto M also supports all Indian LTE bands. Lenovo has also put in the Dolby Atmos audio technology in the Moto phone. The company claims that the sound technology offers 360-degree surround sound experience which is more natural and lifelike.

Since the phone is priced only slightly costlier than the Moto G4 Plus, we expect the company to cut the price of the older phone. At this price tag, the Moto M faces competition from LeEco Le Max 2, Xiaomi's Mi Max and Lenovo's Z2 Plus. Since the Moto brand enjoys a loyal customer base in India, we don't see the competition affecting its sales.

The device will be available to buy from tomorrow mid-night, exclusively on Flipkart.
